BIBLE READING: MORNING: OBADIAH. EVENING: REVELATION 8.
TOPIC: ABIDE IN CHRIST JESUS 2.
TEXT: “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” John 15:5.
Yesterday, we saw the very first requirement to abiding in Christ and am sure that if you read yesterday’s word, you have made it right with God; if you were not precisely connected, and if you have double checked to be sure you are connected.
The next requirement to abiding in Christ is:
1. Dependence: Abiding also implies dependence. This aspect of abiding, unlike connection is not reciprocal. The branch is dependent on the vine, but the vine is not dependent on the branch. The branch cannot exist without the vine but the vine can bring forth other and better branches. The branch derives its life and power from the vine, without the vine, the branch is useless, lifeless, powerless, fruitless.
The branch is completely dependent on the vine so are we completely dependent upon Jesus for everything that counts as spiritual fruit (John 15:4). Apart from Him, we can do nothing (John 15:5).
Child of God, are you completely depending on Jesus? To continue to abide in Him, it must be Jesus plus nothing.
My Father, My Father, as I begin to pray, please help me to depend on you completely.
